About the Role

Allegro Home Delivery is a fast-growing third-party logistics company specializing in big and bulky home delivery. We're seeking a dynamic Warehouse Manager to oversee our Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin facility operations while building and managing our independent contractor delivery network. This dual-focus role is critical to our success—you'll ensure warehouse excellence while recruiting, training, and managing the contractor fleet that completes our final-mile deliveries.

Primary Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations (60%)

  • Oversee daily warehouse operations including receiving, warehousing, distribution, and maintenance
  • Manage warehouse staff and establish optimal operational policies and procedures
  • Coordinate inbound/outbound shipments with tracking and documentation
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts and physical inventories
  • Ensure efficient warehouse layout and space utilization
  • Uphold health, safety, hygiene, and security standards
  • Load and unload merchandise using appropriate equipment and tools
  • Perform receiving/scanning functions including serial number tracking
  • Handle fragile merchandise with proper care and documentation
  • Operate warehouse management systems and maintain accurate data entry
  • Manage vehicles and equipment maintenance

Independent Contractor Management (40%)

  • Recruit qualified independent contractors to meet delivery capacity needs
  • Onboard and train contractors on delivery protocols, customer service standards, and product handling requirements
  • Manage day-to-day contractor relationships including scheduling, route assignments, and performance monitoring
  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements and delivery quality standards
  • Resolve issues quickly including contractor performance concerns, customer complaints, and delivery challenges
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with contractor network
  • Coordinate with contractors on vehicle requirements, equipment needs, and delivery logistics
  • Track and report on contractor performance metrics including on-time delivery, damage rates, and customer satisfaction
  • Conduct regular check-ins and provide ongoing coaching to improve delivery outcomes

Client and Operational Coordination

  • Liaise with major clients including Electrolux and Peloton, and other retail partners
  • Collaborate with routing, customer service, and operations teams
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and transport companies
  • Escalate and resolve customer service issues promptly
  • Support business continuity during high-volume periods

Required Qualifications

Experience:

  • 3+ years of warehouse management or lead experience
  • Experience recruiting, training, or managing independent contractors, delivery drivers, or field service teams strongly preferred
  • Proven track record in logistics or distribution operations

Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in warehouse management procedures and best practices
  • Proficiency with warehouse management software systems
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Forklift Operation Certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills—essential for contractor relationship management
  • Ability to communicate goals, expectations, and feedback clearly to diverse audiences
  • Problem-solving mindset with ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Understanding of warehouse layout optimization and logistics efficiency

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Logiwa WMS software
  • Background in last-mile or white-glove delivery operations
  • Experience managing 1099 contractors or gig economy workers
  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish preferred)

You're equally comfortable optimizing warehouse workflows and having coaching conversations with contractors. You're proactive about recruiting when capacity is tight, you address performance issues directly but fairly, and you build loyalty through clear expectations and consistent support.
